Packt invites NetBeans experts to write a new set of books.

Packt Publishing plans to advance its line-up of open source focused titles, and invites potential authors with NetBeans expertise and book ideas.

NetBeans is booming...

The NetBeans IDE is a modular, standards-based, integrated development environment (IDE) written in the Java programming language. The NetBeans project consists of an open source IDE and an application platform, which can be used as a generic framework to build any kind of application.

The NetBeans IDE can boost your productivity when you're working with Java SE, Java EE, or Java ME technology as well as PHP, Ruby on Rails, Groovy, JavaScript, JavaFX and C/C++. Visual tools that generate skeleton code are also available, letting you create a basic application without writing a single line of code. As such, a myriad of developers are using the power and versatility offered by NetBeans.

Let's take a look at some of the most recent NetBeans-specific stats:

  • NetBeans IDE has been downloaded over 20 million times.
  • Over 550,000 people over 130 countries use NetBeans mailing lists.
  • The NetBeans user base is increasing two folds every three years and there are no signs of the growth coming down

What NetBeans books should be delivering?

A lot of NetBeans books have been published recently but most of them focus on a general overview of the subject. However, in reality, there exists a range of audience for information on how to use NetBeans IDE and platform to do specific type of development. This range runs from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals. So, there's a need of books to meet the requirements of these different audiences.

Packt wants to develop focused and practical NetBeans books...

We are keen to make a mark in this area and develop NetBeans books across a range of existing series, from Beginner’s Guides and Cookbooks, to advanced tutorials for the more advanced applications developers of NetBeans.

We are interested in producing books that are as focused, specific, and as practical as possible. We are keen to hear ideas for NetBeans books aimed at communities of intermediate to advanced developers and newbies. Authors who can make this vision an achievable reality are invited to contact us with their book ideas or otherwise.

We’re looking to commission books on topics such as:

  • Developing Java Games in NetBeans
  • Reference Guides on NetBeans IDE and platform
  • NetBeans Plugins Development
  • Developing professional applications with NetBeans Platform
  • NetBeans best practices
  • and others....

The list of topics here is definitely not exhaustive. If you are aware of an area which needs NetBeans books, we are definitely keen to hear more about it.

What’s in it for you...

Packt pays a generous royalty to authors, and gives you full support throughout the writing process. We’ll help you develop your book idea, write in a way that will be suitable for your audience, and get the book tech reviewed, laid out, and printed.

We have a dedicated marketing team that will focus on ensuring your book gets discovered by the readers who’ll need it most.

Having a published book to your name expands your profile in the community, opening new doors and opportunities for speaking engagements, freelance work, training opportunities, and more.

You don’t need to be a published author to write for us...

We don’t expect you to be a published author, but you should be comfortable writing coherent emails, messages, blog posts, and so on.

The most important qualities we are looking for are:

  • Expertise in the area you are interested in writing on, along with real-world experience of working with NetBeans.
  • The ability to put yourself in reader’s shoes, and show them how to do things they’ll find most useful.
