Interview with Frederik Bussler

Frederik is the author of AI-Powered Commerce, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What are your specialty areas?

Frederik: I specialize in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science.

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Frederik: I have been working in the AI field for a variety of projects over the past few years, including articles for publications like Forbes and Towards Data Science. I was motivated to write the book because I felt that there was a lack of available information that focused on how to use AI for product and service innovation.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Frederik: I leaned on my experience at Commerce.AI, where we’re using AI to help companies innovate their products and services. I also did a lot of research on AI applications and case studies that I could use to illustrate the various ways that AI can be used for innovation. I would say that I spent around many months researching, even before beginning the process to write the book.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Frederik: There were a few challenges that I faced during the writing process. One was trying to make sure that the book was accessible to a wide audience, while still providing enough detail for those who wanted to know more. Another challenge was finding the right balance between theory and practical examples. I overcame them by making sure that each chapter included a variety of examples and by providing additional resources (including code repositories and demonstrations of Commerce.AI).

Q. What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Frederik: AI is growing more sophisticated every day, and it will only become more important in the future. I see it being used in more and more innovative ways, especially in the area of product and service innovation.

Q. Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Frederik: This book provides a comprehensive overview of how to use AI for product and service innovation. It is also written in a clear, easy-to-read style, and includes a variety of examples and resources.

Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away with from the book?

Frederik: I hope that readers will come away from the book with a better understanding of how AI can be used for product and service innovation. I also hope that they will be inspired to use AI in their own projects and businesses.

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Frederik: I would advise readers to start with some basic tutorials and to experiment as much as possible. Try to apply what you’re learning to your own projects, and ask for help from others when you need it.

Q. Do you have a blog that readers can follow?

Frederik: You can follow me on Medium: medium.com/@frederikbussler/follow

Q. Can you share any blogs, websites and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?

Frederik: Some good resources for learning AI include KDnuggets, Towards Data Science, Towards AI, Harvard Business Review, MIT Technology Review, and Forbes.

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Frederik: My author journey with Packt has been great. The team has been very supportive, and I have been impressed by the quality of the editing and publishing process. I would definitely recommend Packt to aspiring authors.

Q. Do you belong to any tech community groups?

Frederik: I’m a member of the European AI Alliance and the MIT Tech Review Global Insights Panel.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

Frederik: My favorite tech journals are MIT Technology Review and Harvard Business Review. I usually keep up to date on tech by reading articles, research reports, and following AI influencers.

Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

Frederik: Upfront, I created an outline of the book and identified the key topics that I wanted to cover. I then broke down each chapter into smaller topics and created a timeline for when I wanted to complete each one. I worked on the chapters in order and made sure to review and update the outline as I went along.

Q. What is the one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Frederik: One writing tip that I found to be crucial was to always keep the ball rolling. This means constantly working on the project, even if it’s just a small amount at a time. This will help to ensure that you don’t get overwhelmed and that the project stays on track.
