Jomar: My area of expertise is developing Android apps with Java and Kotlin.

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Jomar: I have been blogging and writing technical articles for a few years now. A couple of years ago, Packt selected me to be a co-author of the book ‘How to build Android Apps with Kotlin’. This year, I worked with Packt on this new book.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Jomar: I spent some time reading the documentations and trying them out before starting the book.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Jomar: It was a bit challenging to write about technologies that change quickly. There are some kinds of stuff that are still experimental and not yet stable. I had to keep myself tuned in to the official channels for updates and wrote additional notes to the corresponding sections.

Jomar: With Coroutines and Flows, Android developers will be able to create high-quality and maintainable Android projects.

Jomar: The book covers the basics of Coroutines and Flows and readers can learn with the hands-on approach.

Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?

Jomar: They should be able to understand the basics of Coroutines and Flows and learn how to use them in their Android projects

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Jomar: Readers should continue learning and keep themselves updated with the latest. They should also practice what they read and experiment.

Q. Do you have a blog that readers can follow?

Jomar: I post articles on my Medium page at https://jomartigcal.medium.com

Q. Can you share any blogs, websites, and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?

Jomar: Readers can check the documentation pages as well as the corresponding pages on the Android documentation. They can also follow the blogs, websites, and channels of developer experts.

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Jomar: It was a great experience writing a book with Packt! The members of the editorial team are supportive.

Q. Do you belong to any tech community groups?

Jomar: Up until a few years ago, I was active in Google Developer Groups (GDG) and other developer communities.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

Jomar: On Twitter, I follow the official accounts, developers from the Android and Kotlin teams, and Android developer experts. I also read their blogs and podcasts/videos.

Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

Jomar: I set aside a few hours each day to do research, experiment with code, and write the chapters. I also scheduled a no-writing day each week to rest.

Q. What is the one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Jomar: Aspiring authors should spend more time on their outline as it will guide them in writing the rest of the content.
