Interview with Nibedit Dey on his book: Cross-Platform Development with Qt 6 and Modern C++

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

Nibedit: Qt, C++, Android, Embedded, ESP32, STM32, IoT, Compuer Vision, ROS.

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Nibedit: I had reviewed several technical books related to C++ and Qt for Packt. I found the books on Qt missed some important sections that were required for end-to-end learning. So, I started thinking about authoring a book. I had received request to author a book several times for different technologies. When Ashish Tiwari from Packt, approached me to author a book on Qt 6, I found it to be a suitable time to attempt to be an author.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Nibedit: One month after 1st discussion.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Nibedit: There were some communication gaps in the initial days. The mail based communication delaying the required clarification. Then, we had an online discussions to discuss about the challenges. Later, we started communicating over phone, WhatsApp and AnyDesk. It reduced the communication gaps and we could make it to publication.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Nibedit: Qt 5 was released in December 2012 and still has support for next couple of years. Qt 6 can remain there for another 5-8 years. Qt is everywhere and with the maturity level, the framework will remain for a long time.

Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Nibedit: Currently, there is only one book for competition(A Guide to Qt 6: Beginner’s Guide to Qt ). The book is for beginners and discusses about Qt Quick and Android. This book can provide end-to-end learning experience with industry relevant skills.
