Sergey Kosarevsky is the author of 3D Graphics Rendering Cookbook, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

Sergey: 3D graphics; mobile software; AR/VR

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Sergey: An acquisition editor reached out to me and asked if I wanted to write a book.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Sergey: 1 month. I was looking into similar book titles and open-source tutorials available.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Sergey: COVID

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Sergey: Vulkan will dominate the market of professional 3D graphics APIs

Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Sergey: In our book, we show how to integrate many rendering techniques together into a working 3D engine. Other books and tutorials focus on the API details and/or small individual rendering examples.

Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?

Sergey: How to structure your code and data to build a 3D rendering engine from scratch.

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Sergey: Do your research before you go out there and try to reinvent the wheel.

Sergey: It was good!

Q. What is the one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Sergey: Writing code is much more complicated than writing texts. Plan accordingly.
