William Oettinger is the author of Learn Computer Forensics, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey…

William: Was contacted via LinkedIn.

Q: How long did it take you to write the book?

William: about nine months – maybe a bit longer.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

William: I have extensive experience in the field, authoring required me to revalidate all of my tools and the location of the artifacts in the digital evidence containers.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

William: Yes. The process required a larger time commitment than I anticipated. You have to set a schedule and stick to it.

Q: What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

William: Grab as much information as you can and validate it. Tech is constantly evolving and changing, you must be prepared for the changes.

Q. How do you keep up-to-date on your tech?

William: Working in the field and communicating with other professionals. Join a professional organisation and participate in the processes.
